Why make.? Why theatre?
My father has died.
I am in pain.
I repent for not having fully known him.
I decide to know him by observing his aftermath.
I handpick relationships that seem crucial to his life.
I try to find him in his absence.
I work with his dramaturg to create scenes for each of these relationships.
I direct the scenes and rehearse with actors.
I expose the real people of his life to these scenes and ask them to play themselves.
I record their performances.
I am making a documentary film which paints a portrait of my father. This portrait is made by the real people of his life.
I am watching my father, in his entirety, yet in his absence, I stand at edges. of the scene and face him alive.
